PM., Modi is a unique prime minister. He is expert in making and using new phrases and those phrases have become a national jibe.
Recently, he used a new but very biting, satirical phrase against former Prime Minister D.Man Mohan Singh. Dr.Man Mohan Singh 'wears the raincoat in the bathroom' jibe. The entire opposition was rattled and floored by this jibe because for them Dr.Man Mohan Singh is an icon irrespective of the fact that he destroyed all the institution of this country and he headed the most corrupt government.
Similarly, PM Modi’s donkey jibe has also become a matchless jibe and nobody can counter the merit of hard work and loyalty, he mentioned in a donkey.
Perhaps surgical strike phrase was also listening by Indian the first time. . Nationalist and patriotic citizens were on cloud nine. They are very happy because their great leader has shown the rogue Pakistan, his ‘chappan inch ki chati.’ The idea of a surgical strike, in itself, was a big strike. Its effect is much more striking than the surgical strike. The precisions and craftiness have given not only a big shock to Pakistan but the Indian opposition parties are equally shocked at the success of the surgical strike. They can neither criticise nor support the surgical strike because it has enhanced the stature of the PM Narender Modi.
The strike may change the equation of Indian relationship with Pakistan. If India keeps on showing tough postures, the costs attached to safeguarding the boundaries will come down considerably. In such a scenario Pakistan will think twice before restoring to any cross-border terrorism. The policy of restrain and dialogue on the part of India has failed completely. This is a big policy change which will give a new sense of confidence in the armed forces and within the country.
Instead, opposite is just opposing and criticising. This is their moral and political duty. The opposition parties are not very happy on this strike. They are blaming the government to extract personal credit of this unusual effort from the action of the army. Not only this, they are also critical of nationalist sentiments as the hyper-patriotic overflow of tokenism and coercion to a neighbouring nation. The there wider reaction has been consistently overblown. If the master stroke itself was embedded in a new language of vigour, the reaction of opposition parties is a product of age-old fears and anxieties which are controlled by Pakistan and Muslim lobby in India.
But Modi is Modi. He believes in action. So his language is also with action packed phrases. In India, the support base of Modi derives its power due to the continuous cross-border terrorism and repression of majority community by minorities in India. Here the victims are the bully and that too in a country where offenders are visibly guilty of the ‘offence’ they are blamed of, then the tide of patriotic sentiments are stronger.
For the first time, people listen to demonetarization. This is the kind of situation where even some die-hard critics of the governments, as well those that have maintained a discreet silence so far, will feel compelled to speak out in favour of the government. The hostile media is almost compelled to support the government. The nationalism narrative has helped the BJP immeasurably, and this feeling must be maintained. Potentially, patriotism is an idea that must be developed in an absolute sense to justify virtually anything for the protection of boundaries and lives of the citizens.
This is not a case in isolation. Modi government has been doing so many such things for the welfare of people and for the safety of the nation. Notebadi is also like an another surgical strike to unearth the black money and destroy the terror network. Similarly, granting citizenship to all the Hindus who faced religious persecution in Pakistan and Bangladesh is another bold step. On ‘triple talaq’ Secular Status of AMU and Common Civil Code Modi government gave very bold opinion in the Supreme Court. Recently the government also cut the prices of ‘stent’ used in heart surgery by 85%.
Not only the phrases are very apt but also uses with great precision. As many have pointed out, that PM Modi, at times is very harsh. But this is politics. For the enemy, no mercy should be shown. For some, there can be no justification for such language and action for the government against Pakistani or opposition. This will, in the first place, is to actively abet the creation of a climate of fear. The sight of such more action and verbal duel falling in line and mouthing politically expedient homilies is cause for alarm and not satisfaction, for it tells us that even the trivial everyday political work is now tainted by an undercurrent of fear and suspicion.
The appeal to use nationalism and bold language as strong issues those help polarise constituencies in the UP election is easy to understand as oppositions polarised Yadavs, Kurmis and Muslims; it is very easy to re-play this appeal. Besides, if elections become the main pitch in which to play out the nationalism question, then elections will continue to get polarised and the outrage will never stop. One can only imagine what will happen caste and secular leaders in this game.
The Modi government must use the issues judiciously. It is a volatile strong line that can create a climate of fear and intimidation in the mind or corrupt and enemies of the nation which serve nobody well. It is certainly in support with Narendra Modi’s attempt to be acknowledged as a globally respected leader. Even as a political device, the utility of nationalism and strong language as a platform lies in its potential; if its plays out fully, the issue may gain more power.
The Ram Janmabhoomi issue, repealing Article-370, Common Civil Code, secular character of the minority institution, are some cases in point- so much has been said about them that today they can mobilise sentiment, even in the state of UP. Beyond all the political computation, there is something deeply positive about the current discourse. Bold talk about boycotting Chinese goods, for instance, reveals a confidence in one’s capability to play on a large stage. From a nation that is, in the international scheme of things, doing fairly well, and from a government that has a clear majority and has every ground to believe that it will continue in power for another team, one would expect a more strong and self-confident show.
